Tough Dogs Need More Than Tough Toys
Dogs that chew hard, play hard, and get bored easily need more than durability. They need the right outlets for their minds, their energy, and their natural instincts.
That's why we created the Rugged Dog System — a simple approach built around three essential needs:
🐾 ENGAGE — Mental stimulation that challenges your dog to think, problem-solve, and work for the reward.
🐾 EXERCISE — Durable, interactive play that gives your dog a productive outlet for physical energy.
🐾 SETTLE — Long-lasting chewing that satisfies natural chewing instincts and encourages focused downtime.
ENGAGE. EXERCISE. SETTLE. Three different needs. One system built around giving your dog the right outlet at the right time.
Why We Built the Starter System
The Rugged Dog System - Starter is exactly what the name says: the starting point.
We selected one proven solution for each part of the Rugged Dog System so you can introduce your dog to Engage, Exercise, and Settle without overcomplicating it.
One product works their mind. One gives their physical energy somewhere productive to go. And three long-lasting chews help satisfy their natural urge to chew when it's time to settle.
It's a simple way to bring more structure and purpose to your dog's day instead of relying on one type of toy or chew to do everything.
Better yet, the products can work together. The Work-To-Eat® can hold oversized chews like yak cheese, allowing you to combine ENGAGE + SETTLE for an even more challenging, longer-lasting enrichment session.
What's Inside
5 individual items: 1 enrichment toy, 1 play toy, and 3 XL yak cheese chews. Item counts include each individual chew.
🐾 ENGAGE — Goughnuts Work-To-Eat®
A virtually indestructible, heavy-duty treat-dispensing enrichment toy designed to keep dogs mentally engaged by making them work for the reward.
🐾 Fill with kibble, treats, or dog-safe fillings for mentally stimulating engagement
🐾 Holds oversized chews like yak cheese sticks
🐾 Freeze filled treats to extend engagement
🐾 Add a Medium MAXX HD Stick (sold separately; not included in this box) to turn it into an adjustable puzzle
🐾 Push the stick deeper to increase the difficulty as your dog gets better at solving it
🐾 Made in the USA and backed by a lifetime guarantee
Why it's in the System: ENGAGE gives your dog something productive to think about — encouraging problem-solving, mental stimulation, and rewarding focused activity.
🐾 EXERCISE — Monster K9 Ring Ball
A 4" solid-core rubber toy built for aggressive and power chewers who need something tough enough for energetic, interactive play.
🐾 Ultra-durable solid-core rubber for aggressive and power chewers
🐾 Trusted by police and military K9 units worldwide
🐾 Food-safe, toxin-free rubber designed not to splinter or break
🐾 Flexible enough for engaging interactive play
🐾 Backed by a lifetime replacement guarantee
Why it's in the System: EXERCISE gives your dog a durable outlet for physical energy through active, interactive play.
🐾 SETTLE — 3 XL Himalayan Yak Cheese Chews
Dense, long-lasting natural chews selected for dogs that chew hard and benefit from a satisfying outlet when it's time to settle.
🐾 3 XL chews — 5–6 oz each
🐾 Typically provides 1+ hour of chew time per chew depending on the dog
🐾 Firm texture helps support cleaner teeth through natural chewing action
🐾 Made with simple ingredients with no grains, gluten, or fillers
🐾 Rawhide-free and easily digestible
🐾 Low odor and low mess
🐾 Sized for medium and large dogs
Why they're in the System: SETTLE satisfies your dog's natural urge to chew while giving them something productive to focus on during downtime.
Start With the Three
The Starter System isn't three random products bundled together. Each one has a job.
🐾 ENGAGE their mind with rewarding mental stimulation.
🐾 EXERCISE their body through tough, interactive play.
🐾 SETTLE with long-lasting chewing and focused downtime.
Together, they give you three purposeful ways to meet different needs throughout your dog's day.
Who Is the Starter System For?
The Rugged Dog System - Starter is for medium and large dogs that chew hard, play hard, get bored easily, have energy to burn, or simply need more productive outlets throughout the day.
It's the ideal entry point for owners who want to move beyond buying random toys and chews and start giving their dog a more purposeful mix of mental stimulation, physical activity, and satisfying downtime.
One way to Engage. One way to Exercise. One way to Settle.
It's where the System starts.
ENGAGE. EXERCISE. SETTLE.
That's the Rugged Dog System.

Good quality yak chews. My pup really likes the smell and taste of these chews! Very durable
Hi Louise! We're so glad your pup enjoys the yak chews and finds them durable. Thanks for sharing your positive experience!
So I have 2 Staffordshire Terriers, Ike and Ti na Turner Compton, and I have 2 4 month old Pitbull Terriers, Sly and Stone Compton. Besides the Yak Cheese, I also ordered 6" Bully Sticks, and 12" Bully Sticks, both the Gargantuan varieties.
I can not tell you how delighted I was when I received their treats and opened the box.
Between the packaging, and the size of ALL the treats, I was floored. I have always had multiple companions, 3+ the last 25 yrs, and I have ordered a lot of treats, from many companies. After a while you get a pretty good idea of cost to size and quality of treats available, and I was pleasantly surprised by the clean neat packaging, the size of treats (and I mean ALL of the treats were sizable, sometimes you might order treats and get a range of sizing, typically not uniform throughout each individual treat but these, every one of the treats were uniformly gargantuan, BUT more over, the quality of ALL the treats were impressive. I will be ordering again. My crew loves them, and whatever makes them happy, makes me happy. Thank you Rugged Dog Company!
I'm a retired disabled veteran, Navy, we have a term for a job well done, it is BZ!
James,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. Hearing that the quality, size, consistency, and packaging exceeded your expectations means a lot to our entire team.
We're especially glad to hear that Ike, Tina Turner, Sly, and Stone are enjoying everything. It sounds like you've got quite the crew of power chewers!
Most importantly, thank you for your service to our country. We truly appreciate it. And coming from a Navy veteran, we'll proudly take the BZ!
Thank you for trusting Rugged Dog Company with your crew. We look forward to taking care of all of you again!
Two very large Rottweilers. Destroyers of all previous toys and chews.
Not these two! They love them. They carry them inside and outside. Back and forth. They are truly indestructible, as described.
I’ve already ordered 2 more. One of each style.
Great product. Well done!
Hi Michael, we're thrilled to hear your Rottweilers love the Monster K9 Ring Balls! Thanks for your awesome feedback and for ordering more. We appreciate your support!
My golden LOVES her Yak Cheese! She will non stop chew on it and it has lasted longer than other chews we have tried and also keeps her very happy and occupied! Definitely going to be getting her some more!!
Amber, this is awesome to hear—thank you for sharing!
Sounds like your golden found a new favorite. That’s exactly what we aim for—something that actually keeps them busy and lasts longer than the typical chew.
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave a review (and the photos are great). Give her an extra scratch for us!
— Rugged Dog Company
Highly recommend these even if you have a smaller dog. Our lab-chihuahua mix is obsessed with them. She chews on these for over an hour every time we give it to her and actually have to take it away from her at night. They are much longer lasting than other similar treats on the market.
Hi Karen,
Thank you so much for the review — this is awesome to hear.
That’s exactly what we aim for with these — long-lasting chew time that actually keeps dogs engaged (sometimes a little too engaged 😄).
W really appreciate you calling out that they work well even for smaller dogs too — that helps a lot of other customers.
Such a great “busy” chew! We have a dog that goes through chews so fast and we couldn’t believe it when we gave this to him and he chewed on it for an hour and barely made a dent! Highly recommend for a dog that finishes chews in record time. We will be buying another one once we need to.
Jamie — this is awesome to hear.
When a dog that usually flies through chews slows down like that, you know it’s doing its job.
Appreciate you taking the time to share this (and the pics — great dog).
We’ll make sure you’re stocked up when it’s time for the next batch.
My dog went absolutely nuts when we gave this to her! She gets SO excited when we pull it out for her to chew on and barely leaves it alone! I can't recommend this the high enough!!
Love this — that excitement is exactly what we want to see. 🙌
Yak chews are great for keeping them busy and giving them something they actually look forward to.
Pro tip: if you ever want to make it more of a challenge, you can place the chew inside our Work-to-Eat toy to turn it into a puzzle.
Sounds like she’s hooked already. Appreciate you sharing this (and the photo)!
These yak chews are massive! Dogs love them!
Lasts longer than others
Hi Diane! We're thrilled to hear that the Monster K9 Ring Ball lasts longer for your power chewer. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I have 3 dogs and my older one loves the yak chews more than anything. Have to buy them for her
Carolyn, we're so glad your older girl has found a favorite in the yak chews! Thank you for sharing what she loves and for letting us help keep your dogs happy.
These are fantastic. My dogs chewed on them for a couple of hours. They loved them.I have two lab mixes and it's hard to find chews that last so long.
Hi there! We're so happy to hear your dogs loved the Himalayan Yak Cheese and enjoyed their long chew time. Thanks for sharing your experience!
My little POOCHON has the chewing power of a small grizzly bear! He loves the yak cheese 🧀!
😂 A Poochon with the chewing power of a small grizzly bear — we love it! We’re glad our XL Yak Cheese is up to the challenge. You’ve already got the SETTLE side of the Rugged Dog System covered with a long-lasting chew he loves. Add ENGAGE for mental work and EXERCISE for durable play, and you’ve got the full setup for your little grizzly. 🐻🐾 Thanks for the 5 stars, James!
My beagle loves this one! Plays rough and so far it’s holding up. Maggie is a super chewer!!
We love hearing this, Kathleen! Sounds like Maggie found her toy. 🐾 The Monster K9 Ring Ball is a great fit for that rough, active play she enjoys — and we’re glad to hear it’s standing up to your super chewer!
You’ve also already started building her Rugged Dog System. The Ring Ball helps cover the EXERCISE side through durable, interactive play. From there, we can add ENGAGE for mental stimulation and SETTLE with long-lasting natural chews.
That’s really what the Rugged Dog System is about — not expecting one toy to do everything, but giving your dog the right outlet for the right job.
Thanks for the 5 stars, and give Maggie some love from the Rugged Dog team!
Very very tuff.... holding up great.
Dogs love it!!
Hi there! We're thrilled to hear your dogs love the Monster K9 Ring Ball and that it's holding up well. Thanks for sharing your positive experience!
my dog likes it. It almost lasted 2 weeks.
They have chewed a piece off already.
We’re sorry to hear they managed to take a piece off the Ring Ball too — it sounds like you have an exceptionally determined power chewer!
The Monster K9 Ring Ball is built to take serious abuse, and the good news is that yours is covered by Monster K9’s lifetime replacement warranty. Please email us at Hello@RuggedDogCompany.Com and we’ll help get both your Ring Ball and Chew Stick warranty replacements taken care of.
Since your dog has managed to damage both, we’d also recommend trying the Goughnuts MAXX HD Large Ring as the next step for dedicated chewing. It has an extra-thick 2.19' solid-rubber cross-section, Goughnuts' MAXX HD rubber compound, and a built-in red safety indicator that tells you when the toy has reached its intended wear limit.
Goughnuts MAXX HD Large Ring
Every power chewer is different. That’s what our Rugged No-Quit Guarantee is about — if something isn’t working for your dog, we’ll help you figure out the next step.
Dog eventually damaged it, but the seller issued a refund and stood behind the product.
Fantastic toy for aggressive chewers. Only issue was the raised logo.
Durability is awesome and the bounce is fun. Just didn't keep my dog engaged as long as hoped.
After 9 months this toy is still like day one. Durable and highly recommended.
Hasn't been destroyed and the erratic bounce keeps my dog entertained.
Excellent for aggressive chewers. Only complaint is the raised logo can become a focus point.
My rescue pit bull destroyed every other toy except this ring ball.
